The Cottage is a brand new nursery opening Spring 2021

It is no secret that Magdalen’s waiting lists are spiralling further and further – we currently have families booking spaces for children two years in advance. This is an issue we have been highlighting to the Local Authority for a long while now and we have been fortunate enough to be offered a site which falls directly within Magdalen’s catchment area.

The Cottage is our brand-new nursery opening this Spring on Garratt Lane. The nursery is located on the Southern part of the Garratt Lane, on the edge of Streatham Cemetery, it is less than 500 meters away from our St George's Grove setting. The building is an old Victorian Lodge that is not too dissimilar from our first nursery on Magdalen Road, The Lodge.

We fell in love with the property as soon as we saw it – it has a wealth of original features internally and has an incredible amount of outside space. The building truly inspired us as it resembles a “Grandma’s Cottage”, which is a theme that we really focussed on when designing it. All rooms will have purpose-built furniture and fittings, and resources, designed specifically by us to reflect the more “Vintage” vibe of the setting. The nursery will have two rooms downstairs, with two rooms upstairs. Each room has been individually designed to reflect the 7 different areas of learning according to the EYFS. We have been fortunate enough to secure Planning Permission to build a Log Cabin classroom in the garden which will be used to enable outdoor play and exploration in the huge natural garden, whilst supporting aspects of Forest School learning. This is an exciting development for Magdalen Nursery and Wandsworth itself. It has been an exceptionally long time since a brand-new nursery setting has opened in our Borough and we are immensely proud to be offered the opportunity by the Council.

The nursery itself is not excessively big – the baby rooms will only have space for six children each and in total the capacity for the whole nursery is only 39 children.
